The application (LA11/2017/0834/F) which was submitted by Taggart Homes, features mainly detached properties which will be located to the east and south of Lisneal College beside Crescent Link Retail Park.
The development will include the construction of 30 new detached dwellings, and 18 semi-detached, with detached garages, public open space and cycle paths and footpaths.
The site is part of the larger zoned housing lands at Crescent link known as housing zoning H 27 in the Derry Area Plan 2011, where extensive work has seen the addition of hundreds of new homes in recent years.
Permission had originally been granted for 70 semi-detached and terraced dwellings at the site, but the applicant has since reviewed the plans.
No objections were received in relations to the application.
Members of the Planning Committee welcomed the addition to local housing stock, but also stressed the need for more mixed use housing to be developed across the city to meet demand.
Chair of the Planning Committee Councillor Dan Kelly, said it would further enhance the development of the area. “I was pleased to see the plans approved by the Committee as they will add to the ongoing development of the area and will also assist in meeting the demand for housing in the city.
“As we progress with the delivery of our Strategic Growth Plan for Derry and Strabane we recognise the need for more quality affordable housing in anticipation of the additional population who will be living and working here over the coming years.
“We want to support our developers as best we can in ensuring we have the capacity to provide additional homes, and that developments meet the highest standards when it comes to design and the preservation of the local environment.”
