Suitable for kids aged 7 years and upwards, this is their chance to unleash their inner rock star with five days of music lessons led by professional teaching staff.
They will be truly immersed into the world of music in this week-long interactive fun programme which is full of opportunity to explore and develop their musical creativity.
Gerry Strawbridge from the Arts Academy commented: “We cannot wait to bring back the ‘Summer School of Rock’ to the Alley Theatre for its second year. Indeed, last year was great fun, the kids really enjoyed it and it was incredible how they developed their musical skills and confidence on stage.
“This year their days at the summer school will be full of exciting and innovative musical workshops, with a showcase taking place at the end of the week for family and friends to enjoy.
“Throughout the week we will be giving guitar, keyboard and drumming lessons – honing their singing and song writing techniques – plus the Alley Theatre technical team will be taking the kids backstage and letting them explore technical requirements for stage, including lighting and sound.
“This course is designed to be great fun whilst also nurturing confidence to bring out the best in young people both on and off stage.
“We found from last year it encourages creativity, as well as effective communication, planning and teamwork skills – and most of all it allows kids to meet and make new friends!
“No musical experience is required – and this is perfect for any aspiring young musician.
“Plus there may be opportunities for participants to perform in upcoming productions by the Arts Academy.”
The ‘Summer School of Rock’ is brought to you by the creative production team of The Arts Academy that created ‘Balo Balo’, ‘Gutz’, ‘Mulan’, ‘Spook House’ ‘Sleepy Hollow’ and the forthcoming ‘Time’ on at the Alley Theatre 25th & 26th May. The Summer School will be facilitated by Gerry Strawbridge and David Oliver.
The cost of the Summer School is £70 for the week per young rocker. A light lunch will also be provided every day.
