IT’S been the worst kept secret in recent weeks in the League of Ireland.
Now it has been officially confirmed: Derry City striker Ronan Curtis is to leave the Brandywell for English League One side Portsmouth.
The 22-year-old, who is out of contract this summer has signed a 2-year deal.
The transfer fee was undisclosed and Curtis will join the club once the transfer window opens on June 9.
As Curtis is under 24, Derry City will get a fee.
Portsmouth assistant manager Joe Gallen said: “Ronan’s got a lot of pace and power, and is good in the air as well.”
Candy Stripes manager Kenny Shiels has not been a fan of Curtis’s move to Portsmouth, saying the striker should change his football agent..
Last month Shiels told reporters: “The agent put it in the paper and now everyone thinks it’s happening. It’s not happening,.
“I can’t see it happening. It’s the wrong club at the wrong time.
“We will not stand in any player’s way if it’s right for them, but this is not right for Ronan.”
