A SINN Fein delegation have been given assurances from senior officials at the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs that there are no plans to relocate civil service staff from Derry to Ballykelly.
The state of the art facility currently has 250 civil service staff working in the new premises.
Speaking after visiting the DAERA headquarters at Ballykelly with East Derry MLA Caoimhe Archibald and meeting senior department official’s Sinn Féin Foyle MP Elisha McCallion said she had been reassured Derry staff will not be relocated.
“This is a hugely important project for the North West region which was announced by my party colleague Michelle O’Neill when she was agriculture minister,” said Mrs McCallion.
“Caoimhe Archibald and I had a good meeting with senior officials from Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs at the new North West Headquarters in Ballykelly.
“We stressed the importance of this as a major initiative in tackling the regional disparities that still exist in our economy.
“And we were reassured that the decentralisation staff movement plan is ahead of schedule and there are no plans to relocate civil service staff from Derry to Ballykelly.”
