SINN Féin Foyle MLA Karen Mullan and Elisha Mc Callion MP have met with the CEO and a senior official of Housing Executive in Belfast.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss funding and sustainability of Foyle Haven, Supporting People Funding and housing needs in the City.
Speaking after the meeting to the Journal , Foyle MLA Karen Mullan said “We welcome the funding and support the Housing Executive has provided to the Foyle Haven over the years, but year on year the Haven has had to fight hard to remain open.
“Sinn Féin representatives are continually meeting with Housing Executive and other statutory bodies to secure recurrent core funding for bodies to take the lead in this process.
The Foyle MP Elisha McCallion said “It is disappointing that three years down the line after I initiated a steering group to work alongside DePaul that a resolution has not been found.
“Over the past year as Mayor Maoliosa McHugh has facilitated the same process without a determined result.Further meetings will now be arranged to seek a resolution to the funding issues affecting Foyle Haven.
“We took the opportunity to raise Supporting People Funding which is vital to many groups in Derry and discuss the housing stress in the City. The engagement was productive and part of ongoing work in relation to housing that Sinn Fein are carrying out.
