Hot House Floweres headling in Strabane’s Summer Jamm
NWRC will be the official education partner of the festival which runs this weekend, from June 23-24, featuring a whole host of entertainment for all the family.
Over the course of the weekend NWRC will be showcasing a wide range of areas of the curriculum to support the festival with fun and interactive activities at their Derry Road Campus and at the official NWRC Summer Jamm Marquee at the main event site.
These include Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy sessions and treatments, Wood Carving and Boat Building by the Crafts and Woodwork department, Arts and Crafts for all the family by our Early Years department, CPR and Defibrillation demonstrations by Health Studies staff and Interactive Racing Robots by our Science and Technology team.
Mayor of Derry City and Strabane, Councillor John Boyle, said it offered a great opportunity for young people to find out what opportunities are available, in a fun and relaxed environment.
“I am delighted to see North West Regional College taking the opportunity to showcase some of their fantastic courses at Summer Jamm this year.
“Lots of people will be looking out for new ideas for the future over the summer months, and the festival offers the chance to really find out more about what’s on offer in a fun, friendly way.
“I would encourage young people at the event to stop in and get a taster of some of the courses, you never know, it could be your chance to start on the path to success.”
As part of the Summer Jamm the college will be running ‘Career Fest’ at the Strabane Campus on Saturday June 23, from 11am – 2pm, where local people can get advice and guidance from North West Regional College’s award winning Careers Academy staff.
So whether you are a school leaver, unemployed or looking for your next challenge, find out more from the experts about how you can take the next step in your journey. Information on the diverse range of full-time and part-time courses on offer at the Campus from this September will be available.
There will also be plenty of good food and entertainment at the end of year BBQ complete with music and team events at the front of Strabane Campus.
Kate Duffy, Director of Human Resources and Learner Services at North West Regional College said: “We are delighted to be the education partner for the Strabane Summer Jamm Festival 2018.
“This partnership will enable local learners to take part in a range of interactive career activities at our Derry Road campus, and at the event itself, in a range of our course areas including hair and beauty, computing, trades and apprenticeships, early years, catering and health & social care.
“We will be providing part-time and full-time course options in these areas at our Strabane campus this September, and we encourage all interested learners from across the local community to come along over the Jamm weekend to sample what we have to offer.”

There will be a full programme of live music and entertainment taking place throughout the weekend, with a fantastic line up of country favourites and family fun events. This year’s festival theme is ‘Let the Dance Begin’ celebrating all types of music and dance, launching with ‘The Seventh Son’ Band, a tribute to Iron Maiden on Friday evening at the Alley Theatre.
Strabane’s local talent will shine at Strajamba Music Festival in the Canal Basin on Saturday evening, with an impressive line-up including Broken Bandits, GrassRoots Band, Harks, 1980 Something, Dareen Doherty & The Heathen Choir, all headlined by the electric The HotHouse Flowers.
Sunday will see a top line-up of music talent taking to the stage for a free afternoon celebration, 3pm-7pm, of country music featuring Shane Owens, Ben Troy, Keelan Arbuckle, The Ward Sisters, Ryan Turner Band and DJ Sean G.
