A TEAM from Derry and Donegal are limbering up for the swim of a lifetime this weekend.
Team Doire and Team Suili are taking part in the North Channel challenge in a bid to raise money for four worthy charities.
They have been in training for weeks swimming in the cold waters of Lough Foyle.
They have launched a Mydonate page in bid to raise money from public donations.
The page says: “This June, we’re aiming to swim the North Channel dividing Northern Ireland and Scotland.
“Often included in the world’s toughest open water swims, this is a challenge so big that it’s only ever been managed fewer than 20 times by relay team before.
“We’re doing this in support of four local causes:
> RNLI (Neds Point)
> Foyle Search and Rescue
> The Red Cross’ support for people in crisis in our area
> ME Support NI
“Please sponsor our efforts and help us provide vital funds for these four deserving organisations that have such an important role in our communities, and a special meaning in our lives.
“We’re Team Doire and Team Suili – two relay teams of five enthusiastic amateur swimmers from across Derry and Donegal attempting to swim the North Channel.
The team members are:
> John Coyle
> George Meenan
> Gerard Curran
