POLICE in Derry say officers have netted a ‘Ronaldo-style’ hat trick of arrest during checkpoints last night in a blitz against drink drivers.
PSNI Foyle say Ballyarnett Neighbourhood Policing Team (MPT) carried out a number of vehicle checkpoints to highlight Alcohol Awareness week.
“We handed out leaflets and conducted multiple preliminary breath tests 🌬 to play our part in this initiative,” wrote an officer on PSNI Foyle’s Facebook page.
“At our last point and just before terminating duty we got a Ronaldo style hat trick.
“One car three arrests (back of the net). Considering there were four people travelling in this car it’s not too bad.
“Two of the males were in possession of Class B controlled drugs and unfortunately for them had money warrants currently outstanding.
“The third male was arrested on driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs.
“Having spoken with this male I am not so sure he will pass the evidential tests.
“The fellas informed police that they had the munchies and were travelling from the City Centre to a well known fast food outlet!!!!
“They will have to make do with the delights at Hotel Strand Road now.”
The three suspects were taken to Strand Road police station for processing and questioning.
