A member of staff was hit over the head with some kind of instrument when two masked intruders stormed Kelly’s Spar shop in Strathfoyle around 9.20 pm on Saturday night.
Another member of staff had a knife pointed at them in what police described as a “terrifying ordeal”.
The two men fled the scene and one male was later arrested by police who quickly arrived on the scene.
A police spokesperson said: “A 42-year-old man has been arrested, interviewed and charged with robbery, assault and possession of an offensive weapon.
“This relates to an incident at Spar Shop on Temple Road on Saturday night.”
The suspect will appear at Derry Magistrates’ Court sitting in Omagh for a first remand hearing this morning, Monday, July 16.
