FOYLE Search and Rescue saved another life last night when a woman was plucked from the cold waters of the River Foyle.
FSR was tasked at six minutes past midnight by the PSNI following reports from a member of the public that a person had been spotted entering the water.
It was one of three people reported to police as missing over night and as a result the PSNI helicopter was launched in a bid to trace them.
One was located on land and the a female was traced to the water. The third person is still being looked for.
FSR say: “At 00:06am Tuesday 17 July 2018, Foyle Search & Rescues Emergency Response Teams were tasked by the Police Service of Northern Ireland to reports received from a member of the public that a person had been observed entering the water. A
“A mobile Unit, Land crew and Boat responded to the scene. Land crew on arrival observed a female in the water communicating with her and activating Reach & Rescue equipment to keep the person afloat.
“A member of the Swift Water Team prepared to enter the water should the persons condition have worsened.
“Boat arrived on scene within minutes and rescued the female.
“Patient was returned to FSR Base in Prehen assessed and treated for early onset hypothermia by EFRs with her condition being monitored.
“On arrival of an NIAS ambulance the female was then transferred to Hospital.
“FSR would like to thank the members of the Public who alerted the Emergency Services, CCTV and the PSNI who assisted with the casualty at Prehen.”
