She is the sixth person to plucked from the waters and taken to safety over the last month thanks to the tremendous work of FSR volunteers on the shore and on the water.
Two members of the public who assisted and activated the life buoy have been highly praised by FSR and have asked them to get in touch so they can be thanked in person.
FSR say on its Facebook page: “At 01:26 hrs Foyle Search & Rescues Emergency Response Teams were paged by our Duty Team to assist them in reports of a person having entered the water.
“Mobile Unit, Land and Pager crew all responded with an immediate search activated of the area as reported.
“Assistance was provided by Duty Shore Patrol and members of the Public who had activated a Lifebuoy in the vicinity.
“At 01:40 hrs Duty Boat crew located and observed a female in the water and carried out a successful rescue on to the boat.
“The female was brought to the nearest landing point where Emergency First Responders from FSR liased with the crew assessing the female treating her for Cold water shock & early onset Hypothermia.
“The female was then handed over to Paramedics from NIAS who transferred the patient onward to Altnagalvin hospital. Appreciation to our Duty Teams, Pager Team, CCTV, PSNI and NIAS for their quick response.
“FSR would appeal to the two members of the Public who assisted on scene and activated the Lifebuoy to contact us via Private Message.
“Your actions contributed greatly to our Teams locating the person in the water and a successful outcome.
“Your experience will have been traumatic so please get in contact so we can speak to you & Thank You in person.”
