Local say that red, white and blue paint has been appearing in Limavady recently.
But they say the loyalist painting has now taken a sinister twist with the letters ‘UDA’ painted on the door of St Mary’s Catholic Church in Irish Green Street.
One local told Derry Daily: “Graffiti has been appearing around Limavady more and more.
“Police apparently have known and seen who is doing it and turning a blind eye.
“They attacked St Mary’s chapel this morning with it and people are in uproar.”
Local SDLP MLA John Dallat has condemned those behind the graffiti attack.
He says: “Those who did this to St Mary’s Church, Limavady let themselves down badly.
“They need to be caught if only to let them know they represent no one from any community.
“They are a total embarrassment to humanity,” added the MLA.
