FOYLE Search and Rescue have given an update on an operation its volunteers were involved in last night.
Police closed the lower deck of the Craigavon Bridge for several hours following reports that someone had been spotted entering the water.
FSR say: “At 18:58hrs on Thursday 2/8/18 Foyle Search & Rescues Emergency Response Teams were activated by the PSNI to reports of a person having entered the water.
“Mobile Units, Land and Pager crews all responded. En route we were advised that a member of the public had entered the water and brought the person to shore where bystander CPR was in progress.
“Foyle Search & Rescue Emergency First Responders arriving on scene immediately proceeded to assist NIAS Paramedics & NIFRS personell in administering CPR & medical treatment to a male.
“The patient was then transferred to an awaiting Ambulance under the care of NIAS Paramedics accompanied by an FSR Emergency First Responder en route to Altnagalvin hospital.
“Foyle Search & Rescue would like to thank ALL members of the Public who helped in any way.
“Special recognition to the person who entered the water and those who administered bystander CPR on shore prior to the arrival of the emergency services.
“Foyle Search & Rescue believe we have been able to contact everyone directly involved in tonight’s traumatic incident and that you have a contact number should you wish to speak to someone 24/7.
