MAYOR of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr John Boyle has said he is delighted that the Six Nations and Triple Crown trophies will be heading to Strabane on Thursday 16 August 2018.
As part of the Six Nations Trophy Tour, Strabane Rugby Club will be bringing the iconic silverware to Melvin Sports Complex from 6-8pm.
Mayor Boyle, who will be attending the event which will also showcase a mini rugby match with members of Strabane Rugby Club’s youth and senior teams, said: “I’m delighted that the Six Nations and Triple Crown trophies will be visiting Strabane.
“This offers a great opportunity for members of the public to view and get their pictures taken with the cups.
“Indeed, I watched on with pride as Ireland secured the trophies with such an impressive 24-15 victory over England in Twickenham on what was a very memorable St Patrick’s Day 2018!
“I would also like to take this opportunity to commend Strabane Rugby Club for organising this visit and ensuring that a broad spectrum of people from the area will have the chance to see these iconic prizes.
“I’m also really looking forward to watching the mini rugby match that will be showcased to celebrate the arrival of this famous silverware.
“It’s great that rugby has now been welcomed to the new 3G pitch at Melvin – alongside football, gaelic and other sports.”
