SINN Féin Councillor Sandra Duffy has encouraged dog owners in the city to avail of a free microchipping initiative for their dog, free pet information, free bags for life and free poo bags at events being run by the Dog Trust in Derry this week.
Cllr. Duffy said: “This is a great initiative by The Dogs Trust .It’s available to any pet owner regardless of their benefit status.
“It will offer free microchipping of their dog, free pet information, free bags for life and free poo bags.
“There have been longstanding problems across the city from unwanted litters and stray dogs which cannot be identified.
“The Dogs Trust initiative has proven in the past to be an effective way to address these difficulties.
“Micro–chipping allows stray dogs to be quickly identified and returned to owners.
“It is important to note also that micro–chipping is a requirement for possession of a dog licence.
“The events will take place on Tuesday August 21, and Wednesday, August 22, at Racecourse Park and Racecourse Drive between 11 am and 3 pm.”
