FOYLE Search and Rescue have praised its volunteers and police who helped in the rescue of a man at the weekend.
FSR say: “At 3.51 am Saturday August 18, Foyle Search & Rescue volunteers were tasked by the PSNI to reports received from a member of the public that a person had been observed in distress in close proximity to the River Mourne.
“FSR Duty Teams coming off duty, members of the Emergency Response Team backed up by Swiftwater Rescue responded.
“On arrival at scene FSR teams observed a male in distress at the rivers edge.
“FSR volunteers communicated with the person and after a period of time removed him from the rivers edge.
“With PSNI now on scene our Swiftwater Teams en route were stood down.
“The person was assessed and treated for minor injuries by FSR Emergency First Responders in attendance and then removed to a place of safety at 5 am.
“Appreciation to the PSNI for there support on scene and to all FSR volunteers for their quick response.”
