Wanted man arrested for public disorder in Derry after hit and run smash on car

POLICE in Derry are appealing for the help from the public in tracing the driver and occupants of a silver VW Golf.

PSNI Foyle say the car was reported to have been driven “erratically and dangerously” in the Westland Street and Cable Street areas of the Bogside yesterday morning, Monday, August 20, between 5.50 am and 6.10 am.

Twenty five minutes it struck and damaged a parked car belonging to a local resident.

The PSNI in Derry say: “The owner is obviously angry and upset that their car has been damaged by an uninsured vehicle.

“They fear they will bear the brunt of the cost on top of the inconvenience of being without their car.

@Police have recovered the vehicle and it will be forensically tested in an effort to identify the suspects.

“Did you see a silver 06 DL Volkswagen Golf with a smashed rear window with a number of males on board in the Bogside at any time recently?

“If so please contact Police on 101 quoting reference 203 of the 20th of August 2018.

“Alternatively please consider contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 1111 where any information you give will be treated in the strictest confidence.

“Two males were located close to the car, but we need your help in linking them to the car.

“One of the males was wanted on suspicion of serious and violent public order offences from the recent disorder and he was arrested.

“Please help us reduce crime and the fear of crime in your area.

“A small number of criminals are holding the community to ransom with their continued anti-social behaviour and until the community stand up to them more damage will be done.

“Please come forward with any information however small and get these people off your backs.”
