Murder victim Andrew Allen blasted to death by RAAD in Buncrana six years ago

A coroner has heard that the Garda investigation into the case of a Derry man murdered in Co Donegal six years ago.

William Allen, 24, was shot dead at his home in Lisfannon, Buncrana in February, 2012.

A number of people have been arrested in connection with the murder but nobody has ever been charged.

The group Republican Action Against Drugs (RAAD) claimed it killed Mr Allen, a father of two, because he was a drug dealer, a claim denied by his family.

Coroner Dr Denis McCauley, who held an inquest into the death of Mr Allen, asked Gardai what stage their investigation was at.

Garda Inspector David Murphy told the inquest that the investigation is still ongoing and that an incident room is still set up but added that he was constrained by what he could say to the inquest.

Coroner Dr McCauley said he would agree to adjourn the inquest until January 30th next but felt he needed to “keep the heat on.”

The next time the case is mentioned before the coroner it will be close to the seventh anniversary of Mr Allen’s cold- blooded murder.
