Macmillan Move Co-ordinator Sean Hargan, who has recently been appointed to the role as a result of funding secured by Council’s Sports Development Department, will help host the event.
The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event and has raised tens of millions of pounds to help provide support to people living with cancer.
Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Boyle, extended his support for the event.
“I look forward to attending the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning at the Foyle Area and would encourage others to attend and support Macmillan by making a donation,” he said.
“Macmillan play a key role in offering support and guidance to individuals and families affected by cancer and this is an ideal way to help them continue that important work.
“I’m aware that staff at the Foyle Arena are making cakes and a number of local bakeries are kindly donating buns as well and I would like to thank them for their support.”
Head of Community and Leisure at Derry City and Strabane District Council, Barry O’Hagan, added:
“The fundraising event will also help raise the profile of the Councils newly established Macmillan Move More Programme which is delivered across the Council area and provides people living with cancer, support and encouragement to develop and sustain an active lifestyle by facilitating high quality physical activity opportunities.
“Those who have taken part in the Move More programme have experienced the health benefits of physical activity and have noted a reduction in fatigue and less side effects from their treatment.
“The programme is individually tailored to help people with cancer to become and stay active at a level that’s right for them.”
Participants of the Move More Programme are delighted that the ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ will be hosted in Foyle Arena and are looking forward to showing their support and helping raise vital funds for the services they provide.
