POLICE in Derry are appealing for the public’s helping after an elderly couple couple were left “very upset” after their house was burgled.
A quantity of jewellery, including sentimental rings, were taken by thieves last week.
A PSNI Foyle spokesperson said: “Assistant Investigator S Hampson is appealing for information in connection with a burglary that occurred in the Duncastle Park area of Newbuildings erry on 22nd September 2018 between 6. 15 pm and 9.15 pm.
“This was a burglary of an elderly couple.
“Many items of extreme sentimental value have been stolen.
“Jewellery including a wedding ring, engagement ring and an eternity ring.
“Also the occupant’s deceased mothers wedding ring, as well as a number of necklaces.
“We are appealing for anyone who witnessed any suspicious persons or vehicles in the area or Newbuildings Industrial Estate to contact Detectives in Strand Road.
“We are particularly interested in anyone who may have seen a light coloured people carrier in the area to come forward.
“The elderly couple are extremely upset at the loss of these items and just wish for them to be returned.
“Anyone with information should call 101 quoting reference 1387 of 22/09/18.
“Alternatively information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.
