Tyrone McCullagh has vowed to silence trash-talking Josh Kennedy on Friday night.
McCullagh and Kennedy boast similar 11-0 records as they vie for the WBO European super-bantamweight title on the ‘Danger At The Docks’ bill at the Titanic Exhibition Centre in Belfast.
McCullagh has shrugged his shoulders at the Englishman’s brash approach online.
“He’s done a lot of mouthing, but I’ll just do my talking in the ring,” the Glen Road man says.
“I just let that go over my head. He’s a clown.”
In June, McCullagh overcame a first career knockdown to defeat Joe Ham and win the Celtic super-bantamweight belt.
Now, he has a chance to emulate fellow Derrymen Charlie Nash and Paul McCloskey in winning a European title, when he meets Englishman Kennedy on Friday.
McCullagh says :It’s gone quicker than I thought. People might say it’s come too soon, but I don’t agree. I’ve a lot of experience behind me. I’m ready for Friday night. This is where I want to be. I’m relishing it.”
As an amateur with the Illies Golden Gloves club in Buncrana, McCullagh was a European silver medalist in Moscow in 2010.
McCullagh says: “One thing just led to another and here we are. It’s been a long road, but I’m starting to reap the rewards now.”
