TRANSLINK has announced new parking arrangements as work is due to get underway on the North-West Multi-Modal Transport Hub (NWMMTH) in Derry.
The company said it has monitored the level of use of the current Park and Ride facility, and have put in place a temporary facility in line with current levels of demand for people that choose to park and travel on the train.
Gary McCluskey, Translink Programme Manager said: ‘‘The nature of the site means we have limited space available and as such, spaces have had to be reduced during these works.
“However, we took time to review the use of this facility to ensure we retained adequate parking facilities, including disabled spaces, for our passengers who want to Park and Ride.
“We also took steps to tell people who were using the former park and ride facility about the changes that would be in place during these works through posters and leaflets, and temporary information signage is in the process of being replaced by our contractor.
“We are also working with Derry City and Strabane District Council who are promoting additional alternative car parking spaces available in the local vicinity”.
“As part of the new development we will be enhancing Park and Ride facilities as we recognise the potential this new multi-modal hub will bring in terms of attracting even more people on board.
“We would like to thank our customers for their patience as we commence work on the new NWMMTH, which represents a new beginning for public transport in the city and beyond.’’
Head of Business with Derry City and Strabane District Council, Kevin O’Connor, said: ‘‘We are delighted to see work commence on the Transport Hub and what will be a vital transport link for both local people and visitors enhancing connectivity in the city.
“We would like to advise that alternative car parking is available at Spencer Road, Simpson’s Brae, Foyle Road, Foyle Valley Railway and Foyle Street.
“Alternative e-charging points are available at Spencer Road and at various locations in the Cityside.’’
