SEAN ‘Mummy’s Bhoy’ McGlinchey suffered a 50-45 points defeat at the hands of Padraig McCrory at the Danger at the Docks card in Belfast on Friday night.
McCrory (5-0) got the better of the Creggan middleweight (2-0) in all four-rounds, flooring McGlinchey in the fourth and final round.
McGlinchey, who landed shots of his own throughout the bout, managed to get back to his feet, but it was McCrory who provided the cleaner punches, putting on a dominant display at the Titanic Exhibition Centre.
‘Mummy’s Bhoy’ chose to accept the fight against McCrory with only hours remaining, the two striking a late-night deal on Thursday night.
Derry Daily understands that some close to the Creggan middleweight had reservations on the short notice bout, but despite those objections, the 2012 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist decided to take the high-risk fight.
Derry man Tyrone McCullagh will headline the bill against Josh Kennedy for the WBO European super-bantamweight title live on BoxNation tonight.
