A 42 year old man was arrested under the Terrorism Act by detectives from PSNI’s Terrorism Investigation Unit earlier today after a man was shot last week in the city.
The victim, a man in his 50s, was attacked in a house on the Brandywell Road by a number of masked men who stormed his home around 8.30 pm last Friday, October 5.
He was shot twice in one leg and once in the other and police say the injuries he sustained could be life threatening.
Police say the man was arrested in the Springtown area of Derry on suspicion of carrying out the paramilitary style attack.
He has been taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite for questioning.
A number of mobile phones and computers were also seized.
Speaking about the arrest, Detective Inspector Heaton said; “PSNI are committed to tackling all types of violence linked to paramilitaries and this arrest comes after a vicious paramilitary style attack on a man earlier this month.
“Paramilitaries are a blight on society.
“Despite their claims that they are protecting their communities, they only seek to exert their control for their own selfish gains.
“Those who are involved in this type of criminality do not represent the interests of the community.
“We are committed to keeping people safe and will continue to work in partnership with local agencies, residents and community representatives to prevent and detect crime.”
