Mayor John Boyle launched the project in the Guildhall.
The Mayor tweeted: “I was delighted to officially launch the Our Future Foyle project at the Guildhall today.
“This exciting project is set to transform the River Foyle & bring about significant economic & health benefits for the city & wider NW region.”
The Our Future Foyle project, which involved two years of wide participation involving more than 5,000 participants is now hoping to secure £25m in funding to roll out the project.
That will include the Foyle Reeds, an art installation and digital health intervention set to transform the Foyle Bridge into an illuminated sculpture of more than 12,000 individual reeds, and an effective suicide barrier.
The project would also see the creation of the Foyle Bubbles project, a series of 40 riverside pods designed to stimulate enterprise and job creation.
The project represents a partnership by the Public Health Agency and the Royal College of Art’s Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design.
