DERRY City have lost another homegrown player this afternoon following confirmation of Aaron McEneff’s move to Shamrock Rovers.
The departure of the 23-year-old will come as a major blow for new Derry boss Declan Devine.
The pair met on Monday to discuss an improved contract but it wasn’t enough to regain the Cornshell Fields man services for another year.
McEneff also held talks with double winning Dundalk before making the decision to move to the capital.
Speaking to Shamrocks Rovers official website, McEneff said: “I’m very happy signing for Shamrock Rovers; obviously it’s a massive club. I’m delighted to get things done and I’m looking forward to the new season.
“Tallaght Stadium is my favourite place to play; whenever I was at Derry I loved coming down to play here because the pitch is always good, the facilities are brilliant and I loved coming down here because it gave me an excitement to go out and play a game of football.
“I’ve loved playing down here and I’m sure I am going to love playing for the home team.”
Derry City only have a handful of players first-team signed up for next season.
