SINN Féin Councillor Sharon Duddy is to bring a motion before Derry City and Strabane District Councils monthly meeting this Thursday calling on the Council to support the #NotSorryMums campaign run by the Public Health Agency and the Department of Health.
Sharon Duddy said: “We all need to recognise the positive benefits that breastfeeding can have for both the mother and baby.
“Breastfeeding mothers and their children should be supported and have equal access to services.
“No mother should ever be discouraged or made to feel guilty for breastfeeding her baby in public.
“Breastfeeding is recommended by the World Health Organisation.
“It is a perfectly natural thing to do with proven health benefits for both mothers and their babies.
“This Thursday I will be calling on the Derry City & Strabane District Council to support the #NotSorryMums campaign run by the Public Health Agency and the Department of Health.
“In 2018 discrimination towards mothers who breastfeed is unacceptable.”
