The Channel 4 comedy follows the lives of four schoolgirls in Derry during the 1990s and it’s captured the hearts of viewers, going far beyond just a comedy.
The series – written by Derry-born Lisa McGee – was a huge hit in Ireland and also reached an audience of 2.5 million in Britain.
This made it C4’s biggest comedy since 2004.
Derry Girls managed to average a viewership of over half a million viewers and it reached 54% of the Northern Irish TV audience, including 65% of 16-34 year olds.
Filming took place in Derry last week for the second series although a date of when it will be screened has not yet been released.
