Drugs and fireworks seized after cops spot sparks flying off car tyres in Derry

IF you want to drive around Derry dealing in drugs and illegal fireworks, then at least put some legal tyres on.

That’s the message from a police officer in the city after detecting a car with sparks literally flying off its rimless tyres last night.

The officer wrote on PSNI Foyle’s Facebook page:

“We had numerous reports of Sparks Flying⚡️from a vehicle in the Ballyarnett NPT 👮🏻‍♂️area earlier.

“Given the amount of Christmas Decorations I’ve seen (it’s not even December!!!) I was thinking it may be the Magic Elf Dust coming off Santa’s Sleigh!

“Unfortunately it was this banged up heap of junk. You may not be surprised to know that this wheel is slightly below the legal tread depth. We also found drugs and fireworks in the car.

“But imagine my surprise when I found perfectly decent usable wheels in the boot!

“So these Criminals have drawn attention to themselves by speeding around on nothing but rims?

“If they had used the tyres which they had in the boot no one would have noticed them.

“They probably wouldn’t have had their car seized, drugs seized, fireworks seized or arrested.

“10 years in and I still don’t understand the stupidity of the criminal mind.”
