SDLP Leader Colum Eastwood has said that his message to Theresa May will be direct as it is succinct.
The Foyle MLA says he will tell the British Prime Minister that whatever the implications of not getting the Withdrawal Agreement through Parliament and the risk of landing a no-deal Brexit, the worst outcome of that scenario will be felt here in Northern Ireland.
Mrs May is touring the North of Ireland, England, Wales and Scotland over the next two weeks in a bid to sell the Withdrawal Agreement to politicians and the public which was signed off by the 27 EU leaders on Sunday in Brussels.
Speaking ahead of meeting the Prime Minister, who is due in the North of Ireland on Tuesday, Mr Eastwood said: “The SDLP intend to use this meeting to impress upon the Prime Minister how vital it is to see this deal through Parliament.
“Despite the deal facing much opposition from many quarters, it is clear it is opposed for varying reasons across the political spectrum, with no definitive or collective agreement on the next step.
“However, the people here have spoken clearly and loudly in favour of this deal.
“The Agri-food sector, business leaders, the border communities, the trade unions and the mandate received by people here two years ago to remain, understand the importance of this deal in protecting our economic future and banking the backstop to prevent any hard border.”
