Edward Meenan who was brutally murdered in the Bogside in the early hours of Sunday morning
The body of the 52-year-old was discovered at 2.45 am in the early hours of Sunday morning in an alleyway off Creggan Street not far from his home in the Little Diamond.
Police say the father-of-nine had sustained significant injuries to his head and body.
A total of five people have been arrested over his murder.
Four suspects – three males and a woman – currently remain in custody after detectives from the PSNI’s Major Investigation were granted an extension to their detentions in custody.
In a statement issued through the PSNI, his relatives say: “The family of Edward Meenan have asked for privacy at this difficult time following the death of a much loved son, brother and father.
“They have asked that anyone who has any information which may be of use to the investigation, please contact Police.”
