Cusack warns: “I having dealt with what seems like an epidemic of break-ins, burglaries and thefts in recent months I am encouraging the public to be extra vigilant and not to advertise their homes as empty.
“I understand that we all want to share our fun experiences as they happen with our friends and relatives and the easiest way to do that is on social media.
“However, we may not be aware of the incredible reach our information can have and those who are actively on the lookout for easy opportunities.
“At this time of year many homes will be stocked up with expensive gifts and these opportunists know that.
“Please do not make things easy and allow them to ruin you or your loved one’s Christmas and save your pics and posts until you are safe at home.
“I would also encourage people to be extra vigilant and keep an eye out for any suspicious activity in their streets and neighbourhoods,” added Cllr Cusack.
