SINN Féin representative Hayleigh Fleming has welcomed the news that Transport NI are to construct a layby on Academy Road to allow vehicles to be parked off the road, which will improve the sight lines when cars are exiting Northland Way and hopefully reduce illegal parking.
She said: “I and my party Karen Mullan MLA have been working very hard to try and find solutions to the problems faced by residents in Academy Road and the Northland Estate by inconsiderate parking.
“This was preventing residents from being able to get parked outside their homes.
“There have also been a number of cars parking and causing obstructions at junctions.
“I am very pleased to have received confirmation from Transport NI following our meetings with them, that they are to construct a layby on Academy Road facing homes in Mountjoy Terrace to allow vehicles to be parked off the road which will improve the sight lines when exiting Northland Way.
“Whilst this is start there is a still a lot of work to be done to address a number of other parking issues affecting residents and to this end we will be continuing our ongoing engagements with the Roads Service, PSNI, North West Regional College and Magee University,” added the Sinn Fein rep
