Detectives have charged him with wounding with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence.
He is due to appear at Derry Magistrates’ Court for a first remand hearing.
As is normal procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the PPS.
The charges follow a serious assault in the Drumleck Drive area of Derry on Sunday afternoon, December 23.
Police arrested a 27 year old man over the incident.
Detective Sergeant Reid said: “Shortly before 1:40 pm on Sunday, December 23, it was reported that a 25 year old man sustained stab wound injuries at a house in the area.
“The man was treated at the scene by colleagues from the Ambulance Service.
“He was taken to hospital for injuries not believed to be life threatening.”
