PSNI Limavady posted on its Facebook page that said when they received reports of a car being driven erratically, they suspected a drink-driver could be behind the wheel.
However, when the vehicle was located and stopped by police it emerged the driver was not over the limit – but was driving around with a back tyre completely missing.
PSNI Limavady warned that drivers can be prosecuted if their vehicle is found to be in a dangerous condition.
“On this fine Boxing Day morning, we were alerted about a vehicle driving all over the roads and what we thought could be a drink driver,” police said in the social media post.
“Our crews dispatched and Limavady police located the vehicle – the driver was not driving under the influence but instead thought it was okay to drive minus one tyre.
“We ask that you please check the condition of your tyres before you drive… and if you have a tyre.
“If your vehicle is found to be in a dangerous condition and you’re continuing to drive it you can be prosecuted. Thanks.”
