Police in Derry drive home the message of illegal parking with 19 tickets issued

Some of the vehicles slapped with tickets for illegal parking in Derry yesterday

PSNI Foyle say it is continuing its crackdown on inconsiderate motorists who repeatedly park illegally in Derry.

And officers have vowed to issue tickets to those drivers who cause obstructions on footpaths to pedestrians or obstruct the views of other drivers by illegally parking close to street corners.

On its Facebook page, PSNI Foyle state: “Despite our numerous posts the message is not sinking in for some.

“Yesterday, Bogside Brandywell and Fountain Neighbourhood Policing Team were out and about issuing tickets to vehicles who were:

🔴 parked on the pavement,

🔴 Parked within 15m of a junction

🔴 Obstructing the road or footpath.

“We issued 19 in total!!

“Please be considerate for members of the community who are affected by inconsiderate parking.

“Think of the mums / dads / grandparents who have to take young children and buggies onto the road because they can’t get past your car.

“Or the person who has sight / mobility problems.

“Maybe an elderly neighbour who isn’t too steady on their feet and couldn’t manage walking up and down the curbs. You are asking these people to negotiate busy roads.

“When parking at a junction you are obstructing the visibility for motorists and pedestrians.

“This could cause serious incidents.

“We will continue to issue tickets to those who commit these offences.”
