YOUNG people across the North West are being invited to channel their creative talents into enhancing the exciting Youth 19 programme, being rolled out over the coming year.
By signing up for the Marketing and Events Team they will have the opportunity to create the brand, digital assets and shape and deliver events for people their own age throughout the year.
Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor John Boyle, said he would really encourage local young people to join the team.
“The Youth 19 programme presents a fantastic opportunity to anyone with an interest in marketing or event management to get involved in creating a fun and exciting programme of events suited to young people in the local area.
“It’s a chance to get involved, to meet new people and to make a difference to the lives of other young people.
“This is a high profile campaign for the North West and one which will provide great experience for anyone who is interested in working in this sphere in their future career.
“I want to put a call out to all our creative and talented young people to get involved.”
The Youth 19 programme is supported by over £1.5 million in funding secured from a range of sources including DCSDC, the Big Lottery Fund, the North West Regional Development Fund and PEACE IV.
The Marketing and Events team will be responsible for raising awareness about the Youth19 programme and promoting the events and highlights on a variety of platforms.
The group will meet to establish the messaging for Youth 19 and the best channels to communicate those messages to a youth audience.
Members of the team will also benefit from receiving Millennium Volunteers Accreditation which will benefit them in their future career choices.
Children and Young Peoples Coordinator with Derry City and Strabane District Council, Claire Lynch, said:
“The Young People’s Marketing and Events Steering Group will play a key role in developing this important campaign for the region.
“It’s also a chance to gain experience in working with a local government body and will offer a valuable insight into the Marketing and Events Industries, with the possibility of future training opportunities.
“We hope to engage with a wide range of local young people from a variety of backgrounds who are keen to use their talents to enhance and promote local youth culture.”
Participants must be aged 12 to 24 years and either live or work, or attend school or college in the local area, and have a real interest in enhancing the lives of young people in the North West.
Steering Group meetings will take place every two-three weeks, to be agreed by the group once established and to remain flexible as suits the members.
The meetings will be held in a variety of locations and there will be the opportunity for online participation. Every hour is recorded for the Millennium Volunteers Accreditation.
Young people with good communication skills, an interest or experience in Marketing, PR and Media, Photography or Video, Events, or Arts & Culture are particularly welcome, or anyone with real enthusiasm and commitment to improving the lives of young people in Derry and Strabane.
