THE PSNI in Derry are asking local people to shop the thugs who wreaked havoc on a local primary school on Sunday night.
Windowss were smashed and equipment damaged from falling rain, leaving St Therese’s Primary School in Galliagh with a hefty bill at a time of cutbacks for principals.
PSNI Foyle say: “After the Eglinton fire it is a shame to be writing about bad news again.
“On Sunday night youths were on the roof of St Therese’s Primary School in Galliagh.
“They have used slabs of stone to smash 6 skylight windows which has rained down into the rooms below causing damage to printers and general devastation.
“Our Schools are already suffering ☹️ with many only surviving by equipment donations and fundraisers by Parents.
“Let us know who these youths are.
“They need to learn to cherish our communities rather than destroy them.”
The attack on the school was condemned by local SDLP councillor Brian Tierney.
He fumed: “A number of windows have been broken in the school which has caused disruption as numerous rooms cannot be used due to obvious safety reasons.
“I visited St Therese’s and staff are genuinely shocked that anyone chose to attack the school.
“School budgets are challenging and all money should be spent on educating our children, not footing repair bills for needless vandalism.
“I would appeal to those involved in this type of behaviour to stop destroying our community.
“Anyone with information should bring it forward.”
