TWO men have been arrested by detectives from PSNI Terrorism Investigation Unit (TIU), in connection with an armed robbery in Derry earlier this week.
The pair aged 49 and 41 were detained under section 41 of the Terrorism Act.
Detective Inspector Orr said: “TIU detectives, supported by district police colleagues, carried out searches in the Creggan and Strand Road areas of the city this morning and arrested the suspects.
“They will be questioned on suspicion of robbing the driver of a red Volkswagen Caddy van at gunpoint on Meadowbank Avenue on 15 January.”
Detectives said that shortly before 11 am on Tuesday it was reported that the driver of a red Volkswagen Caddy van had been robbed on Meadowbank Avenue.
After the Caddy was forced to stop by a white Transit type vehicle, a hooded male in a high visibility jacket with his face obscured by a scarf then approached the van.
He reached inside the vehicle and removed a holdall containing a large sum of cash before fleeing on foot in the direction of Barry Street.
