The man was arrested under section 41 of the Terrorism Act on Sunday and taken to the serious crime custody suite at Musgrave PSNI station for questioning.
He was quizzed about a substantial cash robbery from a van driver at Meadowbank Avenue in the city last Tuesday.
Under the Terrorism Act, suspects cannot be released on police bail.
They are either released unconditionally or charged to court.
