He was speaking after Sinn Féin met the Department for Communities on Friday to raise concerns over ‘unacceptable’ Personal Independence Payment (PIP) assessments.
The SDLP rep said: “Sinn Féin voted for Welfare Reform in November 2015. They voted for Universal Credit. They voted for the Bedroom Tax. And they voted for PIP.
“The PIP assessments that Sinn Féin now deem ‘unacceptable’ are the very same PIP assessments that existed when they voted for Tory welfare cuts.
“Sinn Féin reneged on its promise to protect the most vulnerable in society, but have spent the last three years issuing press statements and waving placards blaming the Tories for welfare cuts.
“Welfare cuts are here.
“Our communities are being plunged into poverty and Sinn Féin, alongside the DUP and Alliance, are complicit in that.
“Despite repeated attempts, they cannot rewrite history on welfare cuts. It is time for Sinn Féin to be honest with the public and end this charade,” he added.
