The protest was organised by the Border Communities Against Brexit at Stormont which launched a declaration and poster calling for the backstop to be maintained.
Among those at the rally were SDLP leader and Foyle MLA Colum Eastwood and Sinn Fein MEP Martina Anderson.
Mr Eastwood said: “There can be no return to the borders of the past. That simply cannot be allowed to happen. That is why the Backstop must be banked.”
The SInn Fein MEP said the backstop is an insurance policy to prevent a hard border in Ireland and to protect the Good Friday Agreement.
“The DUP and Brexiteers are trying to tear up the backstop which will damage the Good Friday Agreement.
“We call on people to support BCAB on March 30.
“Stand up for your rights.”
