SINN Féin’s Elisha McCallion will travel to the European Parliament in Brussels today for a series of meetings to highlight the importance of maintaining the backstop.
The Foyle MP said: “I will be travelling to the European Parliament in Brussels today alongside with other members of the Sinn Féin leadership for a series of meetings and events on Brexit and to reiterate the need to protect the backstop.
“With just over three weeks to go until the proposed Brexit date, it is essential that the EU stands firm on protecting the backstop and the interests of Ireland.
“While in Brussels we will meet with the key negotiators and I will also be meeting with the chair of the European Parliament’s regional development committee to discuss post-Brexit funding for border communities.
“Border areas including my own constituency of Foyle will be hit hardest by Brexit and it is vital that EU funding continues post Brexit to protect our economy,” added the former Mayor of Derry.
