In a detailed communication received from Ulster University Vice Chancellor, Professor Paddy Nixon outlined the progress that has been made to ensure that student admissions can take place in accordance to the UCAS schedule.
Said SDLP Councillor McLaughlin: “We welcome the news that the University is confident that all systems, processes, people and appropriate strategies are in place for a September 2020 opening.
“Yet, the advice that this project requires Ministerial sign-off by the end of May 2019 has dampened all prospect of this project getting off the ground on time.
“In the absence of a sitting Executive in Stormont, this vital project will be put on hold like the numerous other key projects that this region requires in order to deliver economic prosperity.
“The expansion of the Ulster University is at the core of our City Deal and it is vital that these key projects are progressed rather than be consigned to a legislative traffic jam on departmental shelves in Stormont.
“This is all avoidable if only Sinn Féin and DUP would put people first,” she added.
