BIG-HEARTED Harry McColgan thought of others before himself on his birthday.

Instead of buying toys and sweets with is birthday money, the five-year-old decided he would donate it to a very worthy charity that saves lives in Derry city on a regular basis – Foyle Search and Rescue.

FSR is made of volunteers who patrol the walkways and the waters of the River Foyle 365 days of the year to prevent people attempting to take their own lives.

Here Harry is pictured donating his birthday money to an FSR charity box with Mayor John Boyle watched on by his parents and little sister.

Mayor Boyle said: “My heartfelt thanks to five year old Harry McColgan for his selfless gesture of donating his birthday money to Foyle Search and Rescue – my chosen charity for my year in office

“I was delighted to meet Harry himself in the Mayor’s parlour along with his parents Katie and Conor and sister Ayda.”

Well done Harry!
