SINN Féin Foyleside representative Hayleigh Fleming has welcomed confirmation that Council is to plug the funding gap needed for the rebuild of the Rosemount Resource Centre.
“A number of weeks ago, I called on Derry City and Strabane District Council to look at all options available to fill the reported shortfall in funding needed to help with the rebuild of Rosemount Resource Centre,” she said.
“The rebuild will create a new modern facility right in the heart of the local community.
“So it was extremely welcome back in October when the Department for Communities announced funding of £781,836 towards the capital costs of demolishing the old Rosemount Resource Centre and building a new modern community facility there.
“However, there still remained a shortfall so it is equally good news that the local Council has now agreed to provide the funding required to get this project over the line.
“It’s very important that this project proceeds to ensure we have this facility in the heart of Rosemount.
“It also comes at a time when massive investment has been made in Brooke Park and the Creggan Burn, adding greatly to the regeneration of the entire area,” added the Sinn Fein rep.
