The party’s local Health Spokesperson said: “Obesity, and obesity-related conditions, such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease, are serious issues for the health service and have significant impact on the health of many people.
“While bariatric surgery may not be a solution for everyone struggling with obesity in some cases it can help improve and even reverse some obesity-related conditions.
“This could have not only positive implications for peoples physical health but also for their mental health as those with obesity have an increased risk of having health conditions and mental health issues.
“As with any service transformation initiative it should be based on a robust evidence based needs assessment and involve health and social care workers and service users from the outset in co-designing and co-delivering any new service,” added Cllr Duffy.
