Sean Hegarty remanded in custody over attempted murder and rape of a woman in Derry over the weekend
Sean Mark Hegarty, of Balliniska Heights in the Northland Road area of the city, faced the charges which related to incidents on Saturday, April 6 and Sunday, April 7
He was further accused of causing the female grievous bodily harm, attempting to choke the alleged victim and administering a substance to her with sexual intent.
Hegarty was also charged with perverting the course of justice and being in breach of a sexual offences prevention order by having a relationship with a female without notifying her of previous convictions.
The charges follow an investigation by the PSNI’s Public Protection Branch who were contacted by in the early hours of Sunday morning by the woman via a 999 call.
Following police objections to bail about the risk of re-offending, Hegarty was remanded in custody to Maghaberry prison.
Hegarty will appear back in court on Tuesday, April 16, for a further remand hearing.
