Cllr Cusack said: “Given the current state of our schools, community and household budgets, a school trip or even visit to a museum is simply not possible for many children whose families are struggling.
“We should therefore take advantage of any opportunity which comes our way.
“The Henry Smith charity’s ethos is directed at tackling social and economic deprivation in our worst affected areas.
“I want to make people aware of this current opportunity by the Henry Smith Charity which aims to provide one -off grants of between £500 – £2,500 for children aged 13years or younger who are disadvantaged, disabled or from areas of high deprivation, with a recreational holiday or outing.
“The current deadline for applications is the 30th of April for trips to be taken with the 1st May and 30th June and certain restrictions apply.
“Application for this grant aid is available four times during a year so I would urge anyone interested to be aware of it.
“I hope this will be of help to someone in our City and District.
