Hundreds of people, including politicians, religious and civic leaders, along with ordinary members of the public have signed the book to express their sorrow and outrage at Lyra’s savage and pointless murder.
Councillor Boyle tweeted: “Just a reminder that the Book of Condolence for Lyra McKee is open for signing at the Guildhall today.”
The murder has hit the Mayor extremely hard as he once taught Lyra when she was a media student.
The 29-year-old was shot dead by dissident republicans in Creggan on Thursday night while covering rioting in the area.
On Saturday morning, detectives arrested two teenagers, aged 18 and 19, under section 41 of the Terrorism Act over the journalist’s “senseless and barbaric” murder.
Reflecting on Lyra’s murder, Mayor Boyle said on Friday morning: “I’m devastated on so many levels this morning.
“Devastated and disgusted.
“I’ve known Lyra since she was a teenager.
“She was brilliant, witty, intelligent and warm.
“We were lucky to have her.
“And I’m proud to have been able to say she was my friend.
“Farewell “wee Lyra”.
“I won’t forget you.”
